Facts: 2/14/03, at approximately 2:30 p.m., plaintiff, age 46, was operating his 1998 Ford E150 van in the number 3 southbound lane of the 101 Freeway, just south of the Lankershim Boulevard exit in Los Angeles. When vehicles ahead of him came gradually to a stop, plaintiff brought his van safely to a stop behind traffic stopped ahead of him. Defendant #1, age 28, in the course of her employment with defendant #2, was operating her 2002 Ford Explorer in the southbound lane behind plaintiff at a speed of approximately 60 mph. She struck plaintiff's vehicle at about 45 mph.
